Shared Mailbox Accessibility Inconsistent

Users can no longer access a mailbox they have full access to.  User has successfully connected to said shared mailbox previously.  No administrative changes have been made to user shared mailbox account.  The shared mailboxes ARE still accessible to them via OWA.

1.) all users running vista sp2 and office 2007 sp3

2.) all users have full access permission for the mailbox they are connecting to

3.) removed all users' local mail profile and local PST/OST files

4.) installed the apps that come with the Lync install

Intermittently, they are unable to access the shared mailboxes and get the "Cannot open this item. Cannot open the free/busy information. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance." message.
